Computer Dept. sponsors IT awareness day

In line with the celebration of the Computer Society Week, an Information Technology (IT) Awareness Day was sponsored by the Computer Department at the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) covered gym on February 13, 2015 from 8:00 to 12:00 noon.

It was participated in by the students and faculty members from the computer department. Also present were graduating BS Information Technology students and faculty members from the external campuses.

Mr. Raymond Cabarles, the first speaker from Business and Life Motivational Coach from Manna Health Worldwide, led the discussion on the harmful effects of advance technology and its solution. He also talked about the effects of radiation and using anti-radiation devices to lessen their impact on man.

The second speaker, Mr. Brett Romer Ledesma, a Technical Support Representative and an avid DOTA 2 player, discussed high-end technologies used on online gaming. He also taught the audience to choose the devices used for gaming based on their budget.

After the discussions, a Service Management Program (SMP) Roadshow was held. It was headed by Zoe T. Diaz de Rivera, Jemaine Rivera, and Eckhon Malig, representatives from the IT& Business Process Association Philippines (IBPAP).

During the roadshow, the IBPAP representatives updated the WVCST academic community on the benefits of linking via social media. They also invited and encouraged the students to join the SMP online community and the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Companies.

Agents of Teletech, Startek, SPI Global and Avon were also present to recruit WVCST students for the employment needs of their company.

The activity was followed by a meeting of the IBPAP representatives with the Student leaders who would act as facilitators of the upcoming SMP- student activities.
